Every athlete faces change.
A new season.
A new team.
A new coach.
A new challenge.
Eventually, life after hockey.
And whenever change shows up, so does uncertainty.
What's going to happen?
Will I make the team?
Will I get the opportunity?
Will this work out?
What's next?
Most people respond to uncertainty by thinking further into the future.
But that's the wrong place to focus.
The future is unknown.
The future is uncontrollable.
The future is where anxiety lives.
Instead, bring yourself back to one question:
Right now, what can I do to get better?
Not tomorrow.
Not next week.
Not next season.
Right now.
Right now, what can I learn?
Right now, what skill can I improve?
Right now, what opportunity is in front of me?
Right now, what action can I take?
The athletes who handle change the best aren't the ones who have everything figured out.
They're the ones who stay present.
They're the ones who keep learning.
They're the ones who keep improving.
They understand that growth doesn't happen in the future.
Growth happens right now.
So when you're preparing for a new season, don't focus on opening night.
Focus on getting better right now.
When you're preparing for a new team, don't focus on where you'll fit in six months from now.
Focus on learning right now.
When you're preparing for a new challenge, don't focus on the outcome.
Focus on the process right now.
When you're preparing for life after hockey, don't focus on having all the answers.
Focus on the opportunities in front of you right now.
Because change is inevitable.
The future is uncertain.
But your focus doesn't have to be.
When a new season arrives...
RIGHT NOW.
When a new team arrives...
RIGHT NOW.
When a new challenge arrives...
RIGHT NOW.
When life after hockey arrives...
RIGHT NOW.
Stop focusing on outcomes.
Stop trying to predict the future.
Focus on getting better.
Focus on learning.
Focus on the opportunity in front of you.
Because the future isn't built someday.
It's built RIGHT NOW.
